EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

AR becomes valuable when it removes friction at the point of action.

Commonsent AR should begin as a daily decision layer that helps people buy better, resist manipulative messaging, understand consequential claims, and move money toward suppliers aligned with their priorities. These personal utilities create the trust, product graph, local ownership network and transaction activity needed for Commonsent to mature into a civic and cooperative operating layer.

DESIGN THESIS

From screen-based information to situated agency.

Phones and dashboards force people to translate between an abstract interface and the physical situation in front of them. AR can collapse that distance. The relevant contract term can appear beside the renewal notice. A maintenance step can appear on the exact component. A planning proposal can appear at full scale on the street it would change. A public issue can become a trackable object at the place where it exists.

Platform readiness is improving. Android XR now describes development paths spanning headsets, wired XR glasses, and audio or display glasses; lightweight glasses experiences can extend an existing phone application through projected activities. OpenXR provides a cross-platform runtime standard, while WebXR supports browser-delivered immersive experiences. Commonsent should therefore be device-agnostic: mobile AR first, glasses as they become available, and richer spatial workspaces for tasks that require depth.

Commonsent also introduces two layers that conventional AR platforms generally leave to advertisers and marketplaces: a counter-persuasion layer that can translate emotional or manipulative messages into inspectable factual propositions, and a transaction layer that can execute purchases inside a user-controlled interface optimized for need, budget, total cost and local recirculation.

Attention is a scarce civic resource. The default AR state should therefore be empty. A user sees only the next decision-relevant element, with confidence and provenance available on demand. Accessibility must be multimodal, allowing visual, audio, haptic and companion-screen interactions.
